Retaking a training quiz

A user at one of your clients failed a course quiz, or just wants another go at it, and asks whether they can retake it. They can — retakes are open, and a user can take a course’s quiz as many times as they need.

When a user finishes a quiz, the results screen offers a Try Again option. Choosing it starts a fresh attempt of the same quiz — no waiting, no limit on how many times they can do it. A user who didn’t pass can keep trying until they do.

The pass mark is built into each course, so a retake is scored the same way as the first attempt.

What a retake changes — and what it doesn’t

The important part for your reporting: the first pass is the one that counts. Once a user has completed a course, that completion stands — retaking the quiz afterward doesn’t move their completion date or overwrite the record. So a user who passed in January and brushes up again in June still reads as a January completion.

For a user who hasn’t passed yet, each attempt is just another chance to reach the pass mark; completion is recorded when they first clear it.

Can a user retake a quiz they already passed? Yes. It won’t change their completion — the first pass is locked in — but there’s nothing stopping someone from running through it again as a refresher.

Does a retake reset or hurt their completion status? No. Completion is first-pass-wins. A later attempt, pass or fail, doesn’t undo a completion they already earned.

Can I limit how many times someone retakes a quiz? Not today — retakes are unlimited and aren’t partner-configurable. A user can attempt a quiz as many times as they like.

A user says they’re stuck below the pass mark — what can they do? Have them revisit the course material and use Try Again for a fresh attempt. There’s no lockout, so they can keep going until they pass.
